Program Cuts Create an Uncertain Future for BOGAP

The Osborne Bronx Gun Accountability and Prevention (BOGAP) program has supported 52 young people to avoid incarceration by committing to a yearlong program focused on behavior change and community building. Its graduates are now pursuing jobs and starting families, but federal budget cuts now threaten the program.

A Year of New Beginnings

One year ago, Osborne welcomed the first residents to Fulton Community Reentry Center, a first-of-its-kind transitional housing program in the Bronx for men over 40 returning from incarceration. Today, Fulton is a thriving community that offers a safe and stable home to 140 people who receive support to pursue their goals for employment and independent living. We spoke with a few former residents who have since moved into their own homes.

Nothing replaces in-person visits

For LaQuintae Bradley, nothing matters more than seeing her mom in person. In-person visits have been essential in sustaining their bond throughout her mom’s incarceration. Now, LaQuintae is urging lawmakers to pass the Protect In-Person Visits Bill to ensure that families like hers never lose that vital connection.

Support the Protect in-Person Visits Bill!

Please contact Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins today and ask her to pass the Protect In-Person Visits Bill (A4603/S5037)! This important bill will protect in-person visits from being replaced with video calls and require facilities to offer evening or weekend visiting hours. Your voice matters—let's make sure families can continue to visit their loved ones in person!

“I came home in the middle of February with a thin army jacket and a shirt so thin it was like tissue paper. Osborne took care of all of that immediately: sent me to the store, sent somebody with me, got me warm clothes — everything. They gave me money to furnish my apartment, got me a job. That’s heaven for a guy that really wants to do something. This is a place for guys that want to prosper.”
